Parent Monitoring
Track your child's academic progress, view grades, and monitor their learning activity.
Parent Dashboard Overview
The Parent Dashboard is your central hub for monitoring your child's educational activity on RokuChannel Education. When you log in with a parent account, you see a summary of your child's performance at a glance, including recent grades, active channels, and learning activity.
What You Will See
The dashboard presents several key sections:
- Student Summary Card — Shows your child's name, enrolled channels, overall GPA, and total learning hours for the current period.
- Recent Grades — A feed of the most recently graded homework and test scores, including the assignment name, score, and date graded.
- Active Channels — A list of all channels your child is enrolled in, with a progress bar showing how many episodes have been completed in each.
- Watch Activity — A summary of how much time your child has spent watching educational content, broken down by day and by channel.
- Upcoming Deadlines — A list of homework assignments and tests that are due soon, so you can help your child stay on track.
Viewing Your Child's Grades
The Grades section provides a detailed breakdown of every graded item across all of your child's enrolled channels. You can view grades at multiple levels of detail:
Grade Views
-
Overall GPA
The top-level view shows your child's cumulative GPA across all channels. This single number gives you an at-a-glance sense of overall academic performance.
-
Per-Channel Breakdown
Drill into any channel to see the GPA for that specific course, along with individual homework and test grades within it.
-
Individual Assignment Details
Select any graded item to see the full details: the score, the maximum possible points, teacher feedback (if any), and the submission date.
Grade Tracking & GPA Flow
The following diagram illustrates how individual assignment grades flow through the system to produce your child's cumulative GPA and report card:
Monitoring Watch Progress
Beyond grades, you can monitor how your child is engaging with the video content. The Watch Progress section shows:
Time Spent
See total hours spent watching educational content, broken down by day, week, or month. Compare with class expectations.
Episodes Completed
View which specific episodes have been completed and which are still in progress. A progress bar shows overall channel completion.
Activity Timeline
A day-by-day view of when your child was active on the platform, showing watch sessions and their duration.
Engagement Score
An overall engagement metric based on consistency of activity, completion rates, and assignment submission timeliness.
This information helps you understand not just what grades your child is earning, but whether they are actively participating in the learning process. A student who watches all the videos but scores poorly on tests may need a different kind of help than one who skips videos entirely.
Setting Up Notifications
Stay informed about your child's academic activity by enabling notifications. The platform can alert you about important events so you do not have to check the dashboard constantly.
Available Notification Types
| Notification | When It Triggers | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Grade Posted | When a teacher grades a homework or test submission | On |
| Homework Due Soon | 24 hours before a homework assignment deadline | On |
| Test Available | When a new test is published for an enrolled channel | On |
| Low Grade Alert | When a grade falls below a configurable threshold (default: 70%) | Off |
| Inactivity Alert | When your child has not logged in for a configurable number of days | Off |
| Channel Completed | When your child finishes all episodes in a channel | On |
Managing Notification Preferences
To enable or disable notifications, go to your parent account settings and select "Notifications." Toggle each notification type on or off according to your preference. Notifications are delivered via the method you choose in your account settings (email or in-app).
Your child's educational data is protected by the platform's privacy policies. Here is what you should know:
- Only linked parent accounts can view a student's grades, watch progress, and activity data.
- Student data is stored securely in the database and is never shared with third parties.
- All communication between the app and server is encrypted.
- The platform uses OTROTL SSO authentication, which means your login credentials are managed by the same secure system used across the organization.
- Students cannot modify their own grades or submission records.
- Check the dashboard at least once a week to stay informed about your child's progress.
- Use the watch progress data to have informed conversations with your child about their study habits.
- Enable the "Low Grade Alert" notification if you want to be proactively notified about academic struggles.
- Compare watch time with grade performance — this can reveal whether your child is watching videos thoroughly or just skimming.
- Contact the teacher through the school's communication channel if you have concerns about a specific grade.
