Student Learning

Learn how to browse channels, watch educational videos, track your progress, and pick up where you left off.

Browsing Channels

Channels are the primary way educational content is organized on RokuChannel Education. Each channel represents a course or subject area, and contains a series of video episodes that make up the curriculum.

Finding Channels

You can discover available channels in several ways:

  1. Browse the Channel Directory

From the home screen, navigate to the channel directory to see all available courses. Channels are organized by subject area and difficulty level.

  2. Search by Name or Topic

Use the search bar to find channels by name, subject keyword, or instructor name. Results update as you type.

  3. Enroll in a Channel

When you find a channel you want to take, select "Enroll" to add it to your learning dashboard. Some channels may require an access code from your teacher.

  4. Access Your Enrolled Channels

All channels you are enrolled in appear on your dashboard under "My Channels." You can access them anytime from the Roku TV or web companion.

About Enrollment Enrollment is tracked by the system so your teacher knows you are part of the class. Once enrolled, all your watch progress, homework submissions, and test scores are linked to that channel.

Watching Videos

Each channel contains multiple video episodes arranged in a specific order. You can watch them sequentially (recommended) or jump to any episode you need to review.

Video Player Controls

The video player provides the following controls on both Roku TV and the web companion:

  • Play / Pause — Start or pause the video. On Roku TV, use the Play/Pause button on your remote.
  • Seek Bar — Drag the progress bar to jump to a specific point in the video. Your position is saved automatically.
  • Volume — Adjust the audio volume. On Roku TV, use the volume buttons on your remote.
  • Fullscreen — Toggle fullscreen mode on the web companion. Roku TV always plays in fullscreen.
  • Speed Control — Adjust playback speed (0.5x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x) on the web companion to speed up or slow down the lesson.
  • Closed Captions — Enable or disable subtitles when available.

Video Progress Tracking

The platform automatically tracks how much of each video you have watched. This information is used to show your progress, mark episodes as complete, and calculate your overall course completion percentage.

Continue Watching

One of the most convenient features of RokuChannel Education is the ability to pick up exactly where you left off. Whether you were watching on the Roku TV and need to switch to your phone, or you stopped a lesson partway through and want to resume the next day, the platform remembers your exact position.

How It Works

Every time you watch a video, the platform saves your current position (timestamp) to the server. When you return to the app, it checks for any in-progress episodes and displays them in a "Continue Watching" section at the top of your dashboard. Selecting an episode resumes playback from the exact second you stopped.

CONTINUE WATCHING FLOW Open App API Fetches watch_progress "Continue Watching" Row Displayed Resumes From Exact Timestamp Syncs Across Devices Roku TV Web Watch on TV at home, continue on phone during commute — seamlessly Position saved to server — works across all logged-in devices

Cross-Device Resume

Because your watch progress is stored on the server (not locally on your device), you can seamlessly switch between devices:

  • Start watching a lesson on your Roku TV at home.
  • Continue on your phone or tablet while on the go.
  • Finish on your laptop at school or the library.

The "Continue Watching" section always shows the most recently watched episodes that have not yet been completed, sorted by the last time you watched them.

Tips for Students
  • Watch videos in order — lessons build on each other, and your teacher may have structured them sequentially for a reason.
  • An episode is marked as "complete" once you have watched at least 90% of it, so make sure you watch most of the video before moving on.
  • Use the speed control on the web companion to speed up review material or slow down difficult concepts.
  • Check the "Continue Watching" section on your dashboard each time you log in to quickly resume where you left off.
  • If you are having trouble with a lesson, re-watch the video before attempting the associated homework or test.
